Adho Mukha Sukhasana (Easy Pose with Forward Fold/ Simple Cross-Legged Forward Fold)Let's first break down the meaning “Adho” — meaning “downward” “Mukha” — meaning “face or Mouth” “Sukha” — meaning “easy” or “comfortable” “Asana” — meaning “pose” Benefits · Stretches the back, shoulders, hips, knees andankles · Folding forward calms the mind, and reduces anxiety and fatigue · Soothes, calms, and centers the mind, making it a therapeutic posture for relieving stress · When it is practiced with the head supported, it can also help to relieve neck and back pain. (hands folded in front and rest your forehead on your hands you can also use a blanket, pillow, bolster, or a chair) · Restores balance and equanimity to the body,mind, and spirit Limitations · Do not practice this pose if you have a current or recent knee injury · If your hips are very tight, it might be difficult to cross your legs. Never force the pose. Instead, practice a modified version until your flexibility increases. Utilize blankets, bolsters or blocks as available to make yourself comfortable in the pose · Women who are pregnant should avoid practicing this pose Hold the posture for 5 minutes with deep breaths. Change leg postures, repeat the pose and hold it for another 5 minutes with deep breaths. It is a simple way to reduce stress, tension, and worries at any time!
